Who are we?
A small company in the UK, Sex and Death Motion Pictures make movies on small budgets and are self-financed. This enables us to create movies distinctly different to large film production companies. We have no investors telling us what to do. We are free to create movies for an intelligent audience, which we hope are entertaining, of a similar style, and are thought
We place our movies on emerging streaming movie sites where they can be watched for a nominal fee. We do not use Youtube as we believe viewing is spolit by advertising, marketing, and all the other annoyances a proper and sincere movie watcher just doesn't want. With us, you pay a tiny amount, you watch our movie from the comfort of your home, and you don't get bothered by commercial intent. Enjoyment is private and ideal, not something to exploit. This is our vision anyway.
All the movies are written and produced by Mol Smith. He says:
"I make movies I like to watch. Once, there were many small Indie film companies who made films I liked. Most were by European film makers. These days, the big film companies dominate the western world's film audience, and they produce movies which look for the common denominators in their audience. They sell films. I do not make films with the idea of making money, or myself richer.
Instead, I make films with the idea of making people richer. Not in money, but in themselves.
I explore myself and being alive. This makes me richer by enabling me to understand what being alive is.
I want others to discover that in themselves too. I don't wish to preach it. They will find it in themselves.
I hate films which mimic - often poorly - the well-made films that were produced originally with fantastic budgets. You end up watching hopelessly inadequate films which put you off Indie films.
Low budget should not mean bad movie. I wanted to change that idea. Sure, our budgets are small, but we create movies that will make you think, entertain, and which contain a unique style that marks them as truly different.
We produce shorts to experiment with story telling, often in preparation for producing full length feature films. With my movies, you get to see evolution of ideas and style, and then you get to see the culmination of the experiments. It's like a club. It's like real life. You learn, you try, you commit!
Why Sex and Death?
A kind of spoof. All movies have, at their core, the same notion. I just spell it out in the name, so we can get over that one and get it out of the way. It's me saying, 'yeah, yeah, yearh - 'so what else'. it is the 'what else' that really matters."
